Calabrian chilies are small, dark red, medium-spicy chilies from the southern Italian region of Calabria. In the US calabrian chilies are typically sold in brine or as a chile paste, Calabrian chile flakes are rare.
The crushed flakes are then mixed with salt for use as a seasoning as you would other chile flakes in recipes. Whole dried Calabrian chilies are also available.
Note: This product has been irradiated to protect against microbes and disease.
Store Calabrian chile flakes in an airtight container in a cool, dry place.
RECIPES & TIPS
Use crushed Calabrian chilies as you would conventional red chile flake as an ingredient, seasoning or finishing touch for everything from pasta and pizza to salads and vegetable sides. Since they are already mixed with salt, taste for salt after adding them, not before.
