The mild, pure flavor is far from bland and isn't diluted like many conventionally-raised chickens. These chickens are juicy, not water-logged, which makes the meat a little more forgiving if you overcook it slightly.

Certified Free Range, Organic & Humane
These dedicated farmers are raising chickens the way they should be raised. Certified Level 3 by the Global Animal Partnership (GAP), the chickens on SVO farms are given plenty of space and enrichments to express their natural behaviors like jumping, perching and foraging. GAP provides a unique set of standards and guidelines for animal welfare. Level 3 ensures the chickens are free range with access to the outdoors and mandates a "low stocking density" (to avoid overcrowding in houses, making sure the chickens have more space to move about both indoors and outside). Certified USDA Organic and verified by the Non-GMO Project, these chickens are fed an entirely vegetarian diet and never antibiotics, hormones or animal byproducts.
Store whole chickens in your freezer until you're ready to use them, then thaw as many as you need.
RECIPES & TIPS
Whole chickens can be roasted, smoked or grilled; the backbone can easily be removed and the chicken butterflied ("spatchcocked") to reduce cooking time and help the thighs and breasts cook more evenly. Whole chickens can easily be broken down (see our How to Fabricate Poultry tutorial for a step-by-step guide and video). Make sure to save the bones to make homemade chicken stock!
The mild flavor of chicken is adaptable to pair with a wide range of cuisines and ingredients. Go classic and coat with fresh herbs before roasting or glaze with honey and pair with fresh herbs, truffles and root vegetables for a sweet, savory and earthy roast chicken. Leftover meat can be shredded for easy and delicious chicken salad sandwiches.
