While the Indian ghost chile (aka bhut jolokia, naga jolokia) is a small chile variety renowned for its incredibly intense heat it also possesses a slight sweetness and smokiness. These chile flakes contain no other ingredients, ensuring a pure, very potent product that is easy to measure & use.
These dried ghost chilies have been processed into small pieces that tend to average about 3/16” wide. Each container includes some ghost chile seeds, which are where a large part of their heat is stored.
Caution: These chili flakes are extremely hot.
- Wear gloves while handling chilies. Wash hands thoroughly before touching eyes & sensitive tissue.
- If grinding, avoid inhaling powder. Eye & respiratory protection recommended.
- In the event of inhalation, move to open air to clear lungs.
- In the event of burning eyes, flush with eye wash. For burning skin, wash thoroughly with soap & water.
- If irritation persists, seek medical aid.
Storage: Store ghost chile flakes in an air-tight container in a cool, dry place.
Shelf Life: Dried chile pieces will maintain their full flavor for at least twelve months.
Ghost chile flakes are easy to measure, pour, and add to recipes. Add them to any dish you want to bring intense heat to, from soups, stews & braises to salsas. Take care when using them as they are extremely hot, and can overpower dishes if you add too much.
Chile flakes are often added to dishes as-is, making them very convenient. For some dishes you may want to rehydrate them prior to use (How to Rehydrate Dried Chiles).
