This Black Sea Sea Salt is a version of Kala Namak (aka Sanchal) style salt popular in Northern Indian Cuisine. A unique purple/pink grey color, it possesses unique flavor and odor beyond that of conventional salt due to its natural sodium sulfide content. This sulfuric smell and eggy flavor is why it is also used in certain vegan dishes designed to mimic eggs.
Storage: Store black sea salt in a cool, dry place.
Shelf Life: Indefinite.
Kala Namak is used in a variety of Northern Indian chutneys, snacks, and street food dishes. It can be used to make homemade Chaat Masala, an Indian spice blend. Sanchal can also be added to vegan faux-egg dishes to help simulate the odor and flavor of cooked eggs.
