Basil’s distinct mint-anise flavor is an important part of traditional Italian cuisine and is a traditional symbol of love in that culture. Often it is added to hot dishes at the very end of the cooking process in order to protect its flavor. Micro Italian basil possesses that same flavor, but in a more subtle form, which will appeal to people who are looking for a milder version of the mature plant’s potent taste.
Lemon Basil and red Opal Basil are also available.
Applications: Use these micro greens as a tender basil garnish on pizzas, pasta, and other (particularly Italian) dishes. Use sprinkled micro-basil in place of the traditional basil chiffonade for a different look. The combination of basil, pine nuts, Parmigiano Reggiano, and extra virgin olive oil to make pesto is classic. While it would take a lot of micro-basil to make pesto sauce, those same flavors can be lightly tossed together to make a tasty micro-basil salad.
How to Store and Share: Sweet Basil Microgreens should be kept in their plastic clamshell in the fridge until you are ready to use them. They should last for about 5-7 days.
