Paw paws (Asimina triloba, aka papaws, custard apples, wild bananas, prairie bananas) are a North American fruit with a creamy flavor that is something like a cross between a mango, a pear and a banana. They average about 4” long and have a strong scent, smooth, yellow-green skin, and yellow flesh with many seeds and a custard-like consistency.
Paw paws are a relative of cherimoyas. Both Thomas Jefferson and George Washington are said to have been very fond of them.
