Hemp seeds have two parts, the outer bran & the inner hemp hearts. These seeds are sold with the bran on, providing extra texture and nutrition. They have been lightly toasted to accentuate their natural nutty flavor.
They can be used right out of the packaging, as you would nuts, in salads, baked goods, desserts & more.
Hemp seeds are high in omega three fatty acids (with omega-6s in close to the ideal ratio), iron, and vitamin E. They are one of the densest known sources of complete plant protein.
While hemp seeds are from the Cannibis sativa plant – the same plant that produces marijuana - they contain none of the narcotic compounds found in the upper leaves. Hemp seeds have been used as a nutritious foodstuff for centuries. Today they are still an important foodstuff in Poland and parts of western Russia. In addition to being eaten like a grain, they are also pressed to produce a quality cooking oil.
Shelled hemp hearts are also available.
Store hemp seeds in an airtight container in a cool, dark, dry place.
