Opal basil can be used like conventional basil in most preparations imparting a slightly different flavor and a very different color. To preserve it’s flavor, it should be served raw or added at the very end of the cooking process.
Try using opal basil in caprese salads, pestos, and on pizzas to add an exotic element to common Italian dishes.
All basil varieties are very delicate, and bruise easily. As such, we recommend using the leaves whole, tearing them, or using a chiffonade cut.
