Fresh mint is so much more than a dessert garnish.  It can be used to make a variety of meat and poultry condiments, dessert recipes, and beverages.

The fresh mint you will be shipped is spearmint.  We also offer peppermint, chocolate mint and various fruit-mint varieties in our fresh herbs section.

This bulk mint is fine-dining restaurant quality, so it is fresher and higher quality than the fresh herbs found in most grocery stores.

All of our fresh herbs are shipped freshly cut and pre-cleaned (though we still recommend washing before use).

Size:

Choose 2 lbs., 3 lbs., 5 lbs., or 10 lbs. organic or conventionally grown

Features:

  • Freshly cut & cleaned

Season:

Available year round

Storage:

Fresh mint should be stored in a plastic bag in your refrigerator crisper drawer.

For long term storage, we recommend freezing the sprigs individually using the method described in How to Freeze Better at Home. Freezing will make the mint go limp, so it won’t be useful as a garnish, but it will retain its flavor.

Shelf Life:

Up to a week, although in some cases longer. It browns when spoiled, so as long as it stays green it’s still edible. Mint can also be frozen for several months (see above).

Fresh mint leaves are a classic dessert garnish, but also have a lot of uses as an ingredient.  Mint is often chopped or bruised prior to use, as this releases its aroma and flavor.

Use mint to make chutneys, sauces, and jellies for accompanying wild boar, pork (try it with kurobuta pork), duck and lamb.  Fresh mint can be used to make all sorts of desserts (often by infusing or steeping the leaves), including ice cream.  Mint is also delicious muddled into cocktails (mint julep recipes or mojitos) and non-alcoholic beverages like lemonade, coolers and iced tea.  It can be blended to make herb infused oil.

Try freezing whole or chopped mint leaves in ice cubes for use in drinks! To make clearer ice cubes so you can better see the herbs, use distilled water and boil it prior to freezing.

Mint is added to some Middle Eastern-style teas, and can be steeped in hot water by itself to make mint tea, which is considered to be a natural stomachache remedy and is also a diuretic.
