Southwest China (grown indoors)
Reishi mushrooms (aka lingzhi mushrooms, Ganoderma Lucidum) are an unusual mushroom variety generally not eaten themselves, but instead steeped in boiling water to make a bitter mushroom tea. They have long been believed to have significant medicinal properties by practitioners of traditional Chinese medicine, and modern studies suggest that they may possibly provide health benefits.
Dried mushrooms are a great value. It takes about 5 pounds of fresh mushrooms to create 8 ounces of dried mushrooms. They store well in your pantry, last a long time, and can be shipped via affordable ground methods.
Store dried reishi mushrooms in an air-tight container or zip top bag in a cool, dry, dark cupboard.
Dried mushrooms will retain their flavor for at least a year, but likely far longer.
RECIPES & TIPS
Reishi mushrooms are generally steeped in boiling water to make reishi tea, rather than consumed themselves. Though the basic tea recipe is quite bitter, it can be made more palatable through the addition of herbs, fruit juices, sweeteners and other ingredients.
