Product Information


A fan of dried guajillo peppers but wishing they had more kick? Try the smaller puya (aka pulla), which while being a little less fruity, provides a flavor similar to a guajillo with added spiciness. Puyas are long and thin with an almost purplish crimson color.



Store puya peppers in an air-tight container in a cool, dark cupboard.

Shelf Life:

Puya peppers will retain their flavor for at least a year, but likely much longer.


Dried puya peppers can be ground into chili powder or reconstituted in boiling water. In addition to general use as a medium-mild chile, they can also be used to replace guajillo peppers in mole to add more spice.

Puya Chilies


These chilies have a wonderful fruity and spicy aroma. I baked a Smoked Cheddar baguette with them and my colleagues raved about just how wonderful the bread smelled and tasted.
