Dried Organic Black Trumpet Mushrooms
Choose 1 or 6lbs
Black trumpet mushrooms (aka horn of plenty mushrooms, black chanterelles) are fragile and trumpet-shaped with a waxy black-grey-brown surface. They are prized (especially in France) for their buttery, rich, nutty and sometimes slightly smoky flavor. Delicious fresh, they also dry and rehydrate well because they are so thin.
Dried mushrooms are a great value. It takes about 5 pounds of fresh mushrooms to create 8 ounces of dried mushrooms. In addition, they can be shipped much more affordably.
Store dried black trumpet mushrooms in an air-tight container or zip top bag in a cool, dry, dark cupboard.
Dried mushrooms will retain their flavor for at least a year, but likely far longer.
RECIPES & TIPS
Dried black mushrooms can be reconstituted in hot water and then sautéed in butter or olive oil, or cooked in soups, stews or sauces. Once sautéed until tender, they can be added hot or cold to salads, used to top steaks or served as a simple side dish.
