About Marx Foods
HISTORY
In 1895, five generations ago, the Marx family immigrated to the United States from Germany and opened a butcher shop in Brooklyn, New York.
The family then moved to Shrewsbury, New Jersey in the early 1900s and opened a slaughterhouse and cattle dealing business. By the 1940s the business had expanded into a retail butcher shop and wholesale meat distribution.
Frank Marx (fourth generation) continued the family tradition and grew the company into a large meat processor and distributor by the 1970s.
With his three sons; Keith, Justin and Garrett, Frank evolved the family business in New Jersey to include food importing (www.marximports.com), restaurant distribution (www.nafood.com), and food marketing (www.jkgmarketing.com). Today, the companies are run out of offices in New Jersey and Seattle, Washington, with a presence in Birmingham, AL, Miami, FL and Montreal, Quebec.
SISTER COMPANIES
Marx Imports sources the world’s finest meat products from Canada, New Zealand, Australia and South America for distribution throughout the United States.
For over a decade, North American Import & Export, a high-end restaurant distributor, has provided products to fine restaurants throughout the United States. They carry a large inventory of specialty items and are always happy to accommodate special requests.
A niche marketing firm, JKG Marketing has a natural understanding of the needs of small food and beverage producers. By offering all of the marketing services that small and medium food producers need, both in print and online, JKG will stand in as a marketing department.
MARX FOODS
The Marx boys realized many of the unique specialty products available to restaurants are not nearly as accessible to home chefs. Many people who enjoy dining out and are adventurous eaters enjoy cooking and experimenting at home, but obtaining obscure food items can be difficult and expensive.
Requests from consumers were piling into their food service company as well, so they realized the value of having a specialty food company dedicated solely to consumers. By means of the Web, Marx Foods provides premium food products to consumers directly from the source. Through eliminating the middlemen with a direct-to-consumer distribution model, value and freshness is passed on to the consumer.
With strong ties to a network of expert farmers, ranchers, artisans, fishermen and foragers, the goal of Marx Foods is not only to offer unique and hard to find epicurean products, but high quality, fresh, healthy and environmentally friendly items.
The family’s guiding philosophy? A meal can never be better than its ingredients.
Frank, Keith, Justin and Garrett know where each product comes from. Whether it’s visiting the foragers that pick mushrooms throughout the Pacific Northwest or touring cattle ranches in New Zealand or Eastern Washington, the Marx family ensures their vendors follow best practice standards in the way they treat their animals to the impact made on the environment.
Marx Foods caters to health-conscious consumers. All the products including grass-fed beef, grain-fed veal, wild seafood, game birds, shellfish, hand foraged mushrooms, and Artisanal pasta are 100% natural. Pride is taken in making specialty items, such as Camelina seed oil and wild game meat, available. Palm Leaf dinnerware is offered in hopes consumers will use it as an alternative to disposable paper and plastic ware. Created from naturally fallen palm leaves, each piece is natural, renewable and biodegradable.
