David van Wert

Web Site Designer

Originally from East Texas, David received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from Stephen F. Austin University and Master of Fine Arts from Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge.

From there he’s been quite the nomad. He would have enjoyed moving to London or New York upon graduating, but since it wasn’t economically feasible, chose Chicago instead. From there, he moved to Los Angeles, and most recently landed in Seattle, which he now considers home.

David’s original career path included lighting and installation for theatres, trade shows and special events. This developed into graphic and Web design. “Once my boss noticed my personal Web site and realized it was more professional than his company’s, he charged me with Web design,” laughed David. “And I realized that’s what I really had a passion for.”

Claim to Fame: He’s been on Saturday Night Live more than once… in a bear suit!

Our Mission

In his off time, David enjoys hiking with his son. He also creates short films, animation and sketch comedy. When asked about hosting, he said he enjoys cooking and having friends over, but he leaves large party planning to professionals.

Favorite Food: Crawfish Etouffee (at the moment)

Five a Day: Broccoli tops his vegetable list, but if he could only take one fruit to a desert island, it would be apples. Bananas are actually his favorite, but he figures they’d already be growing on the island.

Favorite Restaurants: Mama Desta’s in Chicago; Café Des Artistes in Los Angeles; and Silver Moon Café in Baton Rouge

Wouldn’t Dream of Eating: Endangered species

Unique Consumptions: Rattlesnake, Raccoon, Opossum and Armadillo

Starbucks order: Americano

Cooking disaster: As a fry cook on the Hindenberg… foolishly threw water on a grease fire. The rest is history.

Collection: Wheat pennies. He doesn’t go hunting for them, but if one crosses his path he sets it aside in his wheat penny tin. He maybe considers it a compulsion rather than a collection.
