Less spicy than a jalapeno with a nice sweetness, shishito peppers are perhaps the pepper most commonly served fresh in Japan. With thin walls and tiny seeds, they are almost completely edible (don’t eat the stem) and high in vitamins A and C.
Storage: Store shishito chilies in the refrigerator wrapped in a zip top bag.
Shelf Life: Up to 3-5 days at room temperature, longer if refrigerated.
Shishito peppers are served whole in Japan more often than they are chopped. They are good raw, but are particularly tasty grilled, sautéed, roasted or dipped in tempura batter and deep fried.
