Stevia is a relatively recent discovery in the US. The stevia plant is a naturally calorie & carbohydrate free candy-sweet green that has been enjoyed in South America for centuries. Today it is being used in several countries around the world (particularly Japan) as an alternative to sugar and artificial sweeteners. Stevia has a slight herby-mint-shiso flavor and is significantly sweeter than sugar (stevia extracts can be up to 300 times sweeter), though not as sweet as dulce buttons.
Petite Stevia™ leaves can be used as a garnish (particularly for desserts), muddled into cocktails, or included as an ingredient in desserts and savory dishes.
These stevia leaves are referred to as a “petitegreen”. This means that they are somewhat older than a microgreen, making them larger and more impressive while offering fairly similar flavor and tenderness to a true microgreen.
