Fresh, Lump Crabmeat from Body & Legs. |
Jonah crabs are the larger cousins of the Peekytoe crab. When compared to peekytoe crab meat, Jonah crab meat is sometimes considered less fragile and not quite as sweet.
While peekytoe claws are very small (and thus generally only sold as meat), Jonah crab claws are larger and more meaty.
Storage: Store Jonah crab meat in the coldest part of your refrigerator. Freeze for long term storage.
Shelf Life: Up to 2 days after arrival fresh. Around four months frozen.
Use Jonah crab meat in any recipes calling for crab meat, especially those calling for Jonah, Rock or Peekytoe crab meat.
Jonah crab meat is particularly well suited to salads, cocktail appetizers and crabcakes. It’s often paired with tropical flavors like mango, papaya, banana, avocado,
vanilla beans and macadamia nuts. Other flavors that work well with Jonah crab include
chile peppers, rice wine vinegar, citrus juice (lime, lemon,
yuzu) and fresh chives.
Because this crab meat is already cooked, when you’re serving it hot take care to only heat it through, cooking it further can damage its flavor and texture.
