Natural pacific sea salt, premium baked Hawaiian red alaea clay. |
The darker of the two Hawaiian clay salts, Hawaiian red sea salt is a deep red instead of Hawaiian pink sea salt’s orange-pink. The alaea clay content imparts a slightly nutty iron flavor. These larger crystals really stand out on the plate when used as a finishing salt.
Similar decorative specialty salts are Hawaiian black salt and Himalayan pink salt.
Storage: Store Hawaiian red sea salt in a cool, dry place.
Shelf Life: Indefinite.
Though Hawaiian red sea salt can be used as you would traditional salt, its coarse crystals make it better suited for use as a finishing salt. Simply dust your finished dish with a pinch or two rather than salting it with traditional granulated salt. If desired, this salt can also be ground to a finer consistency using a salt mill or grinder.
