Black raspberries (aka blackcaps) are a special variety native to North America with a substantially darker color and less tart flavor than the common red raspberry. In fact, their juice is so dark it’s traditionally used as a natural coloring agent. They’re highly prized for their health properties and as an ingredient in jams, sauces & desserts.
Black raspberries get their remarkably dark color from high levels of anthocyanins, which are a type of healthy antioxidant. In fact, their antioxidant levels are amongst the very highest in any fruit and can be three times higher than blueberries. Black raspberries are also high in other compounds (ellagic acid, etc) believed to have anti-cancer properties. They’re also a good source of fiber and vitamin C.
These black raspberries are certified organic and individually quick frozen (IQF).
