Short Grain Brown Rice and Himalayan Red Rice. |
Auburn rice is a blend of short grain brown rice and Himalayan red rice, which both cook at similar rates. The result is a beautiful light brown & red rice blend that is high in fiber, anti-oxidants, healthy minerals and vitamins E & B. It has a nutty flavor and slightly chewy texture.
Storage: Store rice in an air-tight container in a cool, dry cupboard.
Shelf Life: A minimum of twelve months.
Use auburn rice in any recipe calling for brown rice.
Rinse the auburn rice blend before cooking it. Add the rice and cold water to a pot (2 ¼ cups of water for every cup of auburn rice). Bring the water to a boil, cover the pot, and reduce the temperature to low. Let the rice simmer for forty minutes, then remove the pot from the heat and let it stand (covered) for an additional five minutes. Fluff it with a fork, then serve.
Each cup of raw auburn rice yields about three cups cooked.
